The Shoujy music project, led by the talented Neapolitan artist of the same name, has released its latest single, Gods Solitude. Known for blending J-Metal influences with Prog Metal, the project delivers a track that not only showcases its complex sound but also delves into profound and timely themes such as intolerance, fears, solitude, and inadequacy.
Shoujy began her artistic journey at 16, performing in rock bands across Naples and opening for prominent acts like Blaze Bayley (former Iron Maiden vocalist) on the stage of Palapartenope “Casa della Musica.” Her passion for Japanese music blossomed on YouTube, where she shared covers of anime theme songs. A turning point came in 2016 when she won the IDOL MASTER contest at Napoli Comicon, propelling her to major events such as Lucca Comics & Games and ETNA COMICS.
Over the years, the project evolved into a collaboration with Haru, a sound engineer and composer, and Myki Di Bono, a guitarist and Prog Metal producer. Together, they have crafted a unique sound, as showcased in previous releases like Surudoi Egao and now Gods Solitude.
The Concept Behind Gods Solitude
The song takes an introspective look at human intolerance and fears, expressed through verbal and physical violence, and the resulting feelings of isolation. Shoujy reflects on individuals with heightened sensitivity, those who see the world in uncommon and transformative ways, akin to possessing “divine powers.” While these abilities can reshape humanity, they also isolate the individuals who bear them.
The track poses a thought-provoking question: Are these “divine beings” among us to destroy or help humanity? This duality is woven into the song’s narrative, amplified by the exceptional contributions of Andrea Arcangeli, bassist of DGM, and Andy Martongelli.
An Epic, Symbolic Music Video
The Gods Solitude music video, shot entirely by Myki Di Bono using a cellphone, employs rich visual metaphors to represent the four elements of nature: water, air, earth, and fire. Each element is personified by a deity, whose actions symbolize the consequences of humanity’s behavior.
The story begins with the Goddess of Water, portrayed by Shoujy, discarding a wilted white daisy, a metaphor for humanity’s decline. The God of Earth, played by Myki, deeply grieves while attempting to revive human purity. The video concludes with a powerful message, leaving viewers to ponder humanity’s role in preserving balance on Earth.
